Ranking well on Google and being recommended by AI are two different races. A business can own the map pack in San Diego, CA and still be invisible when a customer asks an assistant the same question — and the reverse happens just as often.
The two systems read different things. Google’s local pack leans on proximity, Google Business Profile completeness and review volume. An assistant is summarising what the web says about a business — directory profiles, roundups, forum threads and the business’s own pages — and names whoever its trusted sources describe most clearly. Different inputs, different lists.

- This is not a quality judgement. Being named by AI reflects how clearly and favourably the web describes a business, not how good its work is. Excellent businesses go unnamed all the time — that is the whole point.
